Interested in a sleep-away camp? With more than 8,000 across the country to choose from, parents have a bit of homework to do. Here are a few sources:
American Camping Association: This agency accredits summer camps and has listings
of private camps as well as those run by nonprofit agencies. Call (765) 342-8456
or visit www.acacamps.org.
Camp Finders: This free referral service has been helping campers for nearly
10 years, visiting more than 130 overnight camps nationwide. After you submit
the information request form, you'll be contacted for details that will make
it easier to find the right camp. Usually, Camp Finders will contact three to
five camps, which then send you information. Geared toward kids 7-17, Camp Finders
has information on study programs, wilderness/adventure programs, sailing and
diving camps, and more. Call founder Rick Mades of Boca Raton at 338-5750 or
visit www.campfinders.com.
