Children interested in games, such as video or computer games, and how they work may enjoy attending a game design camp. These camps are geared toward kids who want to learn about how to design all kinds of games. Workshops may focus on areas like Flash animation, 3D, DS game design, digital music creation and programming. Video game camps in particular focus on video games for a variety of gaming systems, such as Nintendo or Xbox. Due to the nature of these camps, children must be old enough to be able to grasp the concepts of design, as some of the workshops are quite intense and focused.
Highlights: Kids can make their own games as part of game design camp, using their imagination and technology skills within daily labs and workshops.
What to Ask the Camp Director: Will there be down time as well, for offline activities? Most overnight video game design camps do encourage free play, so they will offer fun recreational options such as Ultimate Frisbee, tennis, capture the flag and even drama.
What to Pack: For overnight camps, pack the necessities for your child, such as weather-appropriate clothing and even some spending money. Three meals are usually included, with nutritious dishes that can accommodate special dietary restrictions if needed.
