You can help your child learn to travel over the snow and ice with ease by sending him or her to skiing Camp. Some skiing camps offer purely day programs, while others have an all-inclusive deal including meals and accommodation. Instruction generally consists of theoretical classes and avalanche awareness and safety mixed with alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and, in some cases, snowboarding. Safety should be a top priority at ski camp, and instructors should be highly qualified and responsible. You can contact the camp and make sure that the coaches are certified beforehand. Certain ski camps focus on alpine skiing, while others focus on cross-country, but both will give your child the confidence to enjoy this snowy sport.
What to Pack: Your child should be prepared to bring his or her own ski equipment including a helmet, skis, goggles and tuning accessories if available. Many camps will let your child rent this equipment for a fee, although the fee is sometimes included in the price of the camp. Appropriate ski clothing, gloves, sunglasses, a water bottle and sunscreen are also recommended items to pack.
KidsCamp Tip: Look for a camp with a low camper to coach ratio to ensure that your child receives more personalized instruction.
