Kids can form lasting friendships and strong sportsmanship skills while attending field hockey camp. Boys and girls who are serious about the sport can learn from top coaches in the industry, through intensive training sessions involving the mechanics of the sport, team building exercises and physical fitness challenges. Focus is on things like ball control, defense, team play, positioning, transfer and outletting, goal scoring, and passing and receiving. Goal keepers also get their own training, focusing on angles, penalty corners, recovery and footwork.
Equipment to Bring: Participants should bring their own field hockey stick, running shoes, shin guards, sunscreen and goalie gear. Sometimes, summer field hockey camps feature swimming as one of the recreational options, so be sure to pack a swimsuit as well.
Counselor Certifications: All coaches must hold the proper certification, and many are top respected coaches in the sport today. Featured camp directors often match their own unique teaching style to the individual abilities of their players.
What to Pack: Choose from extended day camps or overnight field hockey camps. Simple sunscreen, lunch and comfortable clothing is needed for day campers, while overnighters must bring a pillow and sleeping bag, toothbrush and other supplies, night wear and some spending money.
