If you're looking to further enhance your child's religious experiences, you could send her to Christian camp. With one goal of inspiring individuals to a life of service, Christian camps also foster a sense of character and self worth, along with teamwork and just having fun. Campers can engage in anything from water sports and arts to programs that encourage leadership and team building. Some camps are co-ed, while others are segregated. Many cater to a range of ages, from 8 to 18. Some are just for teens, offering teen discussion sessions and extra activities such as canoeing and Survivor-type challenges. Through small group studies, games and plays, campers are encouraged to grow not just spiritually but athletically and socially as well.
What to Pack: Summer sessions usually last a week, so be sure to pack your child's favorite comfort items, comfortable bedding and plenty of bathing suits, shorts, sweatshirts and sneakers for summer Christian camps.
Highlights: Some religious camps have campfire ceremonies, especially in the summer, along with carnivals and overnight campouts.
Counselor Certifications: Counselors should be specifically trained to work with children. They can be clergy members or lay people. Parents should ask about background checks, certifications, religious affiliations and experience before booking.
