A Methodist camp is designed for people whose values held are consistent with those of the United Methodist Church. This kind of camp teaches the Christian doctrine through prayer, worship and Bible study. Prayer areas and chapels are usually found inside the camp, where each camper is free to take a moment with God. Christian camps' usual activities are enjoyed as well, like campfires for instance, where songs of worship are sung and hikes, in order to better appreciate God's gifts and love through nature. They serve as a venue where people of the Methodist faith get together and where a sense of community is built and developed. Apart from offering camp packages to everyone regardless of age, including adults and even whole families, these camps usually also serve as retreat centers that are open throughout the year.
Highlights: Methodist camps encourage participants to become more involved in their local churches through the deeper understanding of their roles as members of the church.
Counselor Certifications: Camps are sanctioned, and sometimes presided over, by respected leaders of the United Methodist Church. This is done with the assistance of counselors sharing the same beliefs, as well as volunteers from and active members of the local Methodist churches.
